The Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Report
The Chambers North America D&I Awards has celebrated the best and brightest of D&I work for over ten years, annually assessing the incredible work our industry has done to effect positive change over the last year.
Each year, we receive hundreds of submissions from dozens of firms across the continent and note with interest the key trends from these nominations. In 2021 we introduced the first Chambers North America D&I Report, which focused on the year’s key theme: the legal community’s work surrounding Race and Ethnicity. The Report was received with overwhelming positivity by the market, so we are delighted to bring you the second in what will be an annual series.
The 2022 Report looks at three key trends which wove through the hundreds of thousands of words our team combed through this year, each of which could have filled an entire report on their own merit. First we look at the development of the affinity group or network in an increasingly pluralistic and nuanced D&I market, focusing on the more unusual or forward-thinking examples of this model. The Chambers team were also struck by the increased focus on the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the nominations, and we delve into some examples of best practice within this area.
Our final section is introduced by the American Bar Association’s President Elect, Deborah Enix-Ross, and look the best examples of innovation in D&I and Pro Bono work. Whether working with vulnerable communities across the globe or using AI to mitigate bias on campus, we believe these case studies represent the future of this work.
Each section contains case studies and profiles from incredible individuals, leading firms and high-profile in-house teams. Aiming to provide both practical tips and inspirational stories, we hope that this briefing will help support you in your D&I and Pro Bono programs, and look forward to continually collaborating with the legal profession through our research and events.
