CEO Lucy Freeman said: “We are extremely grateful to all of those who donated to MLDI through the silent auction, and to Chambers and Partners for organising the event and inviting us to be their annual global charity partner.

This donation was made at the Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards: Europe 2019. Therefore, we are going to use the donated funds to support journalists fighting cases in Europe who are unable to access the legal support they need. The funds will help us take a case to the European Court of Human Rights to fight for the release from prison of a Turkish Journalist detained in Turkey and they will help us provide legal support to a Slovenian journalist and her media outlet, who after using their country’s freedom of information laws to investigate corruption of public officials and state agencies, have ended up in court and have been ordered by the court not to publish stories that are clearly in the public interest.”

As Chambers’ annual charity partner, Chambers will be fundraising for MLDI throughout 2019 and 2020.
